Bilingual Certification Extension for Pupil Personnel Services Candidate Dr. Raphael Reichel’s אַ ייִדישע בראָשור פֿאַר עלטערן וועגן דער אָפּשאַצונג פֿון תּלמידים

The Professional PPS Resource for Parents assignment is important because it requires candidates to translate their specialized knowledge into clear, practical, and culturally responsive guidance for bilingual families. Rather than demonstrating competence only through case reports, evaluations, or reflective essays, candidates must consider how parents understand school procedures, student needs, available services, and their own rights and responsibilities. Creating the brochure bilingually also reinforces that equitable family engagement depends on meaningful language access, not simply the translation of isolated information.

The assignment directly supports the goals of PSGN 698 Field Experiences in Bilingual Pupil Personnel Services by connecting professional experience with consultation, advocacy, and community communication. It demonstrates whether candidates can identify barriers faced by bilingual students and families, select relevant information, and present it in an accessible format that parents can use when making decisions or collaborating with school personnel. The brochure therefore becomes both evidence of professional growth and a usable resource that can strengthen trust, participation, and culturally responsive service delivery.
